Your help is needed throughout the year with the various projects and committees that serve the Parish.

 

Committees/Programs

 

Building & Grounds Committee - responsible for parish physical plant and grounds, repairs, extraordinary maintenance.  Meets once per month on 1st Tuesday, September through May.  

 

Bereavement - assist with a meal for a family following the burial services.  Members provide a casserole, salad or desert.  You may also assist with set up or clean up.

 

Bingo - work one night per month (either Monday or Wednesday, approximately 4 hours).  You may choose from Instant Sales, Caller/Payout or Concession Sales.  Each properly staffed night brings in approximately $2000 dollars in profit for the Parish.  

 

Coburn Library Committee - Our parish library, the Coburn Library, is located below the parish office.  The library committee has been working to offer a variety of Catholic books, videos, audiotapes, CD's and books on tape for adults, teens and children of the parish.

 

Eucharistic Ministers - Assists the priests of the parish in the distribution of Communion.  Many members of the group also take communion to the homebound, so that these parishioners may partake of Holy Communion at least once a week.

 

The Golden Age Club - is a convention of parishioners and others, 50 years of age and older, for the purpose of socializing and enjoying entertainment in a Christian aura.

 

The Knights of Columbus - fraternal organization dedicated to charity, unity and fellowship.  Promotes vocations, prayer, religious education and parish activities.

 

Lectors - Proclaim the scriptures during Sunday and Holy Day liturgies.  Lectors proclaim the good news of salvation to the parish community periodically over a 3-year commitment, to coincide with the 3-year lectionary cycle developed by the Church.

 

Liturgy Committee - assists in preparing special liturgies such as the Thanksgiving and Christmas Masses, Advent and Lenten Reconciliation Services. Plans and prepares church decorations.  Co-ordinates the Lectors, Usher/Greeters, Eucharistic Ministers and Sacristans.  Meets once per month on 1st Wednesday, September - May.

 

Ministry of Mothers Sharing (MOMS) - available to all mothers of the parish.  Through reading, prayer, sharing and activities, this ministry seeks to strengthen the vocation of Christian motherhood, foster support and friendships in the parish and encourage involvement in the various ministries and activities of the parish.

 

The Mothers Fellowship - a part of MOMS ministry that offers ongoing Christian book study, discussion, fellowship and support relating to the vocation of Christian motherhood.

 

Mothers Fellowship Childcare - provides childcare during the morning meetings of the Mothers Fellowship.  Involves 1 hour per week to play, laugh and exercise in the church nursery with young children of the parish.  

 

Music Ministry at St. Catharine Church

We invite you to join the music ministry at St. Catharine, to sing or play in one or more of the three adult groups or in one of the two youth choirs.  If you are an instrumentalist, we would like to find ways to get you involved.  Commitment to a program can be yearly or seasonal, depending upon your time and schedule.  The tradition of choral and instrumental music in the Catholic Church is a long and glorious one, but it requires the ongoing participation of both youth and adults to continue and flourish.

 

Choir membership gives you and your children the opportunity to serve the church in a very special way and to make friends in Christ.  Please give some thought to the musical opportunities listed below:

*       Cantors - the Cantor leads congregational singing at weekend Masses and proclaims the Responsorial Psalm, Gospel Acclamation and various special chants. Qualifications: must be personable, have pleasant singing voice and some music reading ability.

*       Handbell Choir - open to adults, middle school and high school youth.   
WOMEN'S CHOIR - open to all women of the parish. 

*       Mixed Choir - open to adults and high school youth - Thursdays, 7:30 - 9:30 PM, Sundays, 9:45 - 10:15 AM.

*       Youth Choir - open to children in second through sixth grades.  

*       Publicity for Concerts - Typing and mailing publicity notices for concerts to newspapers and various other persons in the community.

*       Ushers/Greeters/Set-up for Concerts - responsible for passing out programs, greeting people, helping set up chairs/stands for musicians prior to special music presentations in the church.

 

Parish Life Committee responsible for planning and conducting parish social activities such as the Spaghetti Dinner, Pizza/Sub Party, Fish Fry, and Golf Outing.  Time commitment is your choice either in planning prior to, or working the day of the event.

 

Pastoral Care Programs -

*       Anointing Service - set-up small reception in church for persons attending service.

*       Bloodmobile - work on parish blood drive twice per year.  Phone, registration, etc.  

*       Meal Chain - furnish and prepare an occasional meal for the sick or a family in crisis.  

*       Men's Faith Sharing Group - for men of the parish who want to integrate their faith with the challenges of daily living through prayer, discussion, fellowship and service.

*       Nurses - needed to be available for special need situations.  For consultation, assessment, respite and sometimes medical assistance to caregivers and/or patients in the parish.  

*       Pastoral Caregivers - visit homebound, elderly, sick, nursing homes and assisted living.

*       Respite Care - available to relieve caregivers in the home on occasion.  Go into the home and stay for an hour or two so the caregiver can go out to the store or to take care of personal responsibilities.  

*       Transport/Delivery - be available on occasion to take sick, homebound or elderly to the doctor or to pick up a prescription.  Occasionally take a person to Mass, Penance Service, Anointing Service, Parish Concert or other parish activity.

 

Prayer Chain - Assists fellow parishioners through prayer and petition.  Members are informed of special needs of parishioners and are asked to pray for those needs.  Once a month the group joins in a rosary or community prayer for the expressed needs.

 

RCIA Hospitality - bring refreshments for the group and be part of the group for the evening.  This is a ONE time responsibility during the year.

RCIA Companion - to journey with one of the participants in the group.  You are asked to be there every WEDNESDAY evening from 7:00 - 9:00 PM and a few Sundays.

 

Rectory  

*       Athletic Association - coach one or more sports.  Work with Athletic Committee.  

*       High School Youth Ministry - parents/adults are needed to drive and help with programs.

 

Respect Life Committee - coordinates parish activities and outreach relating to the protection of the sanctity of all human life.

 

St. Vincent DePaul Society answers God's call for food, comfort and assistance to those in need.  We sponsor Interfaith Hospitality Network, make food calls, and visit Arbors East.  Annual projects include Christmas gifts and food for families and the Lenten Feed the Poor program.

 

 

Social Justice Committee (Social Action Committee) - These ministries initiate and assist reaching out to those within, and outside, our parish borders who need our faith-filled and caring assistance.  Ministries included but not limited to are:  Respect Life, St. Vincent de Paul Society, Interfaith Hospitality Network, Pastoral Care, Bereavement, and National Black Catholic Congress. 

 

A volunteer for this group would enjoy working with others in our faith community to achieve a common goal; desires to effect positive change of social issues that conflict with Catholic beliefs; is willing to reach out to help those in need within or outside our parish borders. 

 

Spiritual Life Committee - responsible for spiritual growth programs, retreats, the parish mission. Provides help with receptions following special events.  Committee meets the 1st Thursday of the month.


St. Catharine Religious Education Program -

*       Substitute Teacher - all lesson plans, manuals and supplies are provided.

*       Classroom Assistant - assist with projects, help classroom teacher.

*       Office Assistant - make copies, get supplies to classrooms, help students once a month during class.

*       Special Projects - phone committee, drive on field trips, art or craft projects.

*       Sacrament Receptions - set up, help with serving, bake cookies, or clean up.  Can choose one or more activity for 1st Reconciliation, 1st Communion, or Confirmation.

 

St. Catharine School -

*       Art Aide - work in art room, hands on, under direction of the Art Teacher (no art experience necessary).  Classes meet once per week, schedule based on your availability.

*       Cafeteria Helper - assist with the preparation and/or serving of lunch.  Hours are from 9:00 or 9:30 AM to 12:00 Noon.  Schedule is based on your availability.  

*       Computer Aide - work with students in the computer lab or the library lab.  You will be working with a staff member at all times.

*       Health Aide - staff clinic on days the nurse is not in the building.  Health training is helpful, though not required.

*       Home & School Association - Acts as a liaison between the school and the parents.  Also helps with fundraising for non-budgeted items such as transportation to cultural and extra-curricular events. 

*       Library Aide - welcome students to library.  Work with individuals and with small groups on book location and research questions.  Pull materials for teachers, reshelf books, work with displays and bulletin boards.  Any special training will be provided.

*       Office Volunteer - Two hours per week, Wednesday or Friday afternoon.

*       Partners in Education - Encourages businesses and individuals to contribute financial support for educational needs and enrichment programs for the students.

*       Playground Aide - Help supervise students during lunchtime recess.  You will work with a staff member at all times.  Hours are from 11:30-12:30 p.m. Schedule is based on your availability.

*       School Advisory Board - This Board is comprised of parents, who are elected from the school community, to advise the pastor and the principal regarding school issues and concerns.  The board meets the second Tuesday of the month.

 

Usher/Greeter - greet parishioners as they come into church.  Take up collection and invite participation by those who bring up offertory gifts.  Hand out bulletins after Mass.  A short training session is provided.  Assignments are to the Mass you usually attend on an alternating week basis.  Married couples encouraged to sign up together.
