S PECIAL P EOPLE I N C ATHOLIC E DUCATION
S.P.I.C.E. is a project to be undertaken at St. Catharine Parish to raise funds to support the inclusion of children with special needs in our school and parish.
S.P.I.C.E. is designed to assist teachers and staff at St. Catharine in their commitment to keep students with special needs in our classrooms.
S.P.I.C.E. will initially serve as a means to raise funds to employ needed personnel to make the inclusion process run smoothly and with maximum benefit to all.
S.P.I.C.E. will ultimately be a source of support for the inclusion process in whatever area deemed necessary by the principal, teachers and parish staff.
S.P.I.C.E. will provide the support to embrace diversity in our school and parish.
MISSION STATEMENT
St. Catharine S.P.I.C.E. Program recognizes that each of our parish children is a unique individual with different learning needs. The S.P.I.C.E. Program supports serving the educational needs of these children.
We believe that children have different learning styles that provide diversity in the classroom environment.
Working together with the support of the S.P.I.C.E. program, the parish community, pastor, administration, teachers, and parents can help to provide understanding, information, creativity and willingness to address special educational needs.

WHO BENEFITS?
A child with special needs receives more than a formal education when allowed to participate in the learning process with other students. The emotional and intellectual challenges of the classroom environment provide a well-rounded and stimulating educational experience.
As spice adds flavor to food, so do children with special needs add a richness to the classroom - encouraging a dimension of understanding and acceptance in even the youngest students.
The inclusive classroom promotes understanding, compassion and respect for all. When students work together and learn to appreciate their individual strengths and weaknesses, everyone wins!
